Workshops
Below is a list of the standard workshops we offer. However, all workshops can be tailored specifically for your school or organisation. Our facilitator will be happy to cater to your needs.
Chess for Primary Schools
Our facilitator will deliver a fun, interactive workshop in your school. Using the step by step, Pawn to King method, your pupils will learn the starting position, movement and capture rules for all pieces. By the end of the workshop your pupils will be able to play a full game of chess.
Chess for Maths Skills
A chess workshop can be a great addition to your school’s Maths Week. Using chess mini games and puzzles, our facilitator will set challenging tasks for pupil to solve collaboratively and competitively. Using chess can be a unique way for pupils to explore problem solving.
Chess for Transition Years
Our facilitator will empower your TY students to start their own chess club in their school. Your students will be taught how to play chess, how to teach chess to younger students and how to run in-school chess tournaments. This would be a perfect project for mini-company or to help students achieve their Gaisce award. Our TY workshop can be done as a once off workshop or over a longer period of time with ongoing support.
Queens of Chess
Chess has a reputation of being dominated by male players, but the Queens of Chess workshop aims to highlight the famous female players and their impressive careers, from grandmasters to popular chess streamers and influencers. Our facilitator will explore the female contribution to chess, the career opportunities of chess, and, of course, teach participants how to play the game. Queens of Chess is aimed at all-girls secondary schools.
Chess for Social Clubs
Our facilitator can offer lessons or run tournaments for your club. A chess tournament can be a great social event for your organisation.
Professional Development
If you are looking for something unique and fun for your staff CPD, a chess workshop is a Croke Park hour your staff will remember. Our facilitator can deliver a workshop based on the focus of your choice; chess for maths skills, chess for social skills, chess for problem solving, how to set up a school chess club or simply a fun staff bonding activity.
